A LITTLE ABOUT ANIMAL EFT

A LITTLE ABOUT ANIMAL EFT

Communicating With Our Companions

Naturally, and left to our own devices, we communicate well and clearly with our companions and they understand us and communicate to us clearly in return.

Stress, upset, past problems and experiences, and "beliefs" can and do get in the way of this flow of communication and energy, and this is where Meridian Therapies can help dramatically.

Tapping for such things as,

  • "I don't know what I need to do to communicate more clearly"
  • "I don't understand why my companion does what they do"
  • "I don't know what's blocking me from communicating more clearly"
  • "I release all experiences and learnings that are blocking flow of communication and of love between me and my companion" or even
  • "I don't believe that I can communicate directly and that my companion understands me"

.... can bring amazing revelations and a quantum leap in the depth of your relationship.

With rescued animals and those who had traumatic early experiences especially, the problem can be the companion's beliefs about people. Whether the issue is over-attachment, general fear and anxiety about the world at large, or lack of trust in humanity, surrogate or proxy-tapping can help clear some of the emotional debris that rescued animals invariably carry over from their past.

When Your Animal Friend Has A Problem Or Illness

It can be very hard on the owner or caretaker of an animal when ...

  • the companion is sick or suffering;
  • the physical attributes of taking care of an ill companion become exhausting
  • behaviour problems cause constant stress, strife and unhappiness
  • problems are long standing or chronic in nature, or cannot ever get any better.

Especially when an animal is living with someone who is a healer, behaviour specialist or supposed to be "an expert" on problems, there can be a feeling of hopelessness and of "somehow having failed in some way" experienced by the owner. This is a very common problem and is shared by parents of ill or disabled children, too.

EFT and other meridian therapies can be a true godsend to alleviate stress and strain for the owner, thus allowing them to be more resourceful, more centered, more grounded and more positive and proactive in their daily dealings with the problems.

A good suggestion for dealing with problems of this nature is to ask, "How do *I* feel about my animal having this problem?"

Answers can vary, from "sad" to "disappointed", from "very angry" to "terribly helpless" and many, many other deep and often desolately destructive emotions.

For the owner to deal with these emotions and to be able to release them is a true gift and can truly help both the owner and their animal, to cope with the circumstances better and to find courage and peace to continue on.

MY INTRODUCTION TO EFT

I had been in a car accident and was moaning on one of my lists how much pain I was in. Suddenly a post appeared from Silvia Hartmann telling me she thought she could help me and gave me her telephone number so I could get in touch.

A lot of things were discussed, not all to do with my actual health, but the inner pain I was going through due to personal circumstances. Silvia spent over 2 hours on the ‘phone with me, explaining the ‘technique’ and I was hooked. I became the notorious ‘tapper’ and was so enthusiastic I brought out a lot of physical problems in me, so in learning to help animals, I healed myself at the same time!

As a learner, I drove her mad asking questions and she remained very patient as I tried to get to grips with some of the basic stuff. Slowly I began to feel confident enough to try it out, and I had a very sick horse that needed something, so I came home and did EFT by proxy. Lo and behold, within 4 days this horse, due for surgery, became problem free. I have to say, it was the most amazing experience. It has been repeated many more times on animals in need and has never let me down. It has shaken up a few vets also!

I am eternally grateful to Silvia for her introduction to EFT, her patience and am thrilled to see how far things have progressed since I first learned it. Please read other articles on the site on EFT. Learn EFT. You will be totally surprised at the results.

I suggest everyone gets the book Adventures in EFT as it explains so much, you can’t go wrong using it. Go here and order http://www.starfields.org/ad.htm

WHAT IS THE MERIDIAN SYSTEM

WHAT IS THE MERIDIAN SYSTEM

The meridian system connects and unifies the entire body. In Chinese theory, Chi and other body fluids move along the meridians, transporting nourishment and contributing strength and healing properties.

Using noninvasive touch techniques, acupressure has consistently shown its ability to:

  • Release endorphins necessary to reduce pain
  • Relieve muscle spasms
  • Remove toxins and increase blood supply
  • Enhance mental clarity
  • Release natural cortisone to reduce swelling

Build the body's immune system.

What is acupressure for animals?

Acupressure is based on thousands of years of oriental medicine. In this modality, the body is viewed as an interconnected energy system via meridian systems. Applying finger pressure to specific points of the body can balance the energy along the entire body. The pathways that map out these points on the body are called meridians and all life has them. The points can either be stimulated or sedated to move energy through the body. Acupressure prevents or removes blockages in the energy flow that can cause pain or discomfort..

When working an acupressure point, you can use other homeopathic treatments to stimulate or sedate. These treatments include aromatherapy such as essential oils and flower essences. Magnets and colors can also be used to effect a point. The benefit of these techniques is that the point can continue receiving stimulation or sedation following the treatment. Acupressure is a successful way to treat animals.

What Are The Meridian Therapies?

WHAT ARE THE MERIDIAN THERAPIES?

Originally developed for people, Meridian Therapies is the generic name given to a group of techniques that all work by tapping on major body meridian points.

Unlike acupressure, you tap or touch very lightly, sending small shockwaves or soothing pulses with your breath through the meridian system, balancing and re-energizing it and clearing blockages as you do so.

Another main difference between the New Meridian Therapies (also sometimes called Energy Psychology or Meridian Energy Therapies) and acupuncture and acupressure is that you use your intention and focus to direct which particular problem you are working on.

What Is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Techniques TM by Gary Craig of www.emofree.com - is the easiest and most user friendly of these techniques. In a moment, you will learn how to do EFT on yourself.

You will shift your own energy system in doing so and relax or release something that you focus your attention on.

What Is Animal EFT?

When people first find out about Animal EFT, they immediately think that it is about tapping ON animals and ask where they should tap their animals.

Although of course animals do have a meridian system, many of the points are in places where animals truly do not like to be touched, never mind tapped. The wonderful thing about Animal EFT is that you DON'T tap on the animal directly, but you tap on yourself to make the changes happen.

This is called Proxy Tapping has lots of advantages:

  • You can do it at any time and even anywhere - you do not have to be in the same room with the animal.
  • You can do it much more often than an animal would generally permit.
  • You can help wild animals, animals that don't belong to you, and animals that you can't really touch much, such as birds and fish.
  • Once you have learned the simple technique, you can use it on any problem, on any animal and you don't have to know anything at all about their various meridian systems or points.

So how does Animal EFT work?

When you focus your attention on an animal, you connect your energy system with theirs.  When you keep the focus of your attention on a specific aspect of that energy system (a problem, disease, behaviour, state of mind and so on) and you change YOUR system by tapping on the points, YOU ARE ALSO CHANGING THEIRS through the connection.

This was originally discovered when a lady, distraught because she was sitting by the side of her premature baby's incubator and unable to touch him, treated herself for the baby's problems and the baby responded by breathing more easily and slower, and finding from somewhere the will to live and to fight on more strongly than before.

Since then, thousands of people all over the world have been absolutely astonished to find that by tapping on themselves whilst holding another living being's problems in their mind, they can make changes without touching them or even being in the same room.

I don't expect you to believe this right away. I didn't believe it either when I first heard about it. But I tell you, when you neighbour's dog 100 yards away stops barking after an hour just because you have tapped a round of EFT on yourself, a shiver goes down your spine and you KNOW you made that happen as if by magic, it is a real convincer experience.

So next, here is the Animal EFT protocol for you to try out on any animal you choose.

The Animal EFT Protocol

1. Focus Your Intention

Think about the animal and what specifically you would like to release, relax, soothe or change.

2. Make A Statement Of Intent

Find a phrase or a sentence that describes the problem succinctly and clearly to you.

You can say, "Sidney has this terrible allergy." or "Sam never stops barking." or, "This brown horse is distressed." if you don't know the animals' name. This is the main part of directing your attention to the problem.

3. The Blessing

We surround the statement of intent with the words, "Even though (Sam) (is hyperactive), I deeply and profoundly love and accept (Sam)." It helps bring you closer to the animal for deeper changes and handles permission issues as well as having positive benefits for YOUR system.

4. The Full Opening Set-Up

Place your flat hand on your chest, either left or right, just above your heart. Wait until you can feel the warmth of your hand through your clothes, rub the hand round in a small circle and say the opening statement which is the statement of intent inside the blessing:

"Even though (insert name or description)(insert statement of problem), I deeply and profoundly love and accept (name or description)."

Repeat this opening statement three times in all, continuously rubbing the chest area just below the collar bone known as the Sore Spot.

5. Tapping All The Points

We now use a shortened version of the opening statement which is called the Reminder phrase and tap lightly with one or two fingers, about seven to nine times, on the following spots (either side is fine) as we say the statement of intent on each point once:

Start Of The Eyebrow - Where the bone behind your eyebrow turns into the
bridge of your nose.

Corner Of The Eye - On the bone in the corner of your eye.

Under The Eye - On the bone just below your eye, in line with your pupil if you look straight ahead.

Under The Nose - Between you nose and your upper lip

Under The Mouth - In the indentation between your chin and your lower lip

Collarbone - In the angle formed by your collarbone and the breastbone

Under Arm - in line with a man's nipples on the side of the body

Thumb - all finger points are on the side of the finger facing towards you,
in line with the nail bed

Index Finger

Middle Finger

Little Finger

Karate Chop Point - on the side of your hand, roughly in line with your life line.

Gamut Point - on the back of your hand, just behind and between the knuckles
of your ring and little finger.

When you're all the way through, take a deep breath in and out. You can repeat the treatment with a different statement - often something comes to your mind as you do this. Different statements create different changes, so experiment with many different forms of wording and ways of saying something until you feel comfortable.

AROMATHERAPY

AROMATHERAPY

Aromatherapy for animals is the art and science of using plant essential oils to treat both the emotional body and the physical body of animals. It takes into consideration the whole animals, so you are not just treating one specific symptom. The oils work to support the animal’s whole being in an effort to get rid of the disease. Essential oils have a positive effect on an animal’s, and no leave no toxic residue in the way synthetic drugs do.

How they work

They can positively influence an animal’s vital force. The energy of the oils interacts with the energy of the animal to produce a healing effect. When the vital force becomes weakened or impaired, disease often follows.

You get outward signs that something is wrong such as heart problems, or a behavioural problem. Yet the root cause of the illness may be physical, emotional or mental, and by rebalancing the vital force, the whole body is brought back into harmony and health.

Essential Oils have a fast acting therapeutic action on the body and some, like lavender and lemon are adaptogenic, which means they are able to adapt to what the body needs at the time. Essential oils work to support every aspect of the animal.

Healing properties of Essential Oils

Not all oils have the same properties but in general they are antiseptic and detoxifying and they help to strengthen the immune system and regulate metabolism.

Essential oils have powerful antiseptic, and anti viral, anti bacterial and anti fungal properties. They are detoxifying, and revitalising, anti-inflammatory, pain relieving, relaxing, soothing, and anti depressant. They can also be used to heal injuries and repel insects.

Plant essential oils are very concentrated which makes them extremely potent even in tiny amounts.

Using aromatherapy with animals

It has been described as a ‘branch’ of herbal medicine, but unlike herbs, it is only in the past few decades that aromatherapy has been used on animals.

Most animals love aromatherapy, but if this is not the case, the treatment should not be used.

How to use Essential Oils

They can be used in many ways, the most common being massage and inhalation.

You can use them as Baths, compresses, inhalation, massage, neat, or taken internally. Treatment by inhalation should be done twice a day for a week. Don’t give your pet Essential oils internally unless you are experienced in oils and know exactly what you are hoping to achieve. They should always be used under the guidance of your vet or aromatherapist. It is very easy to overdose internally, and this will harm your pet. Having said that, used internally they can be most beneficial for digestive problems, internal parasites and other things. You can mix the essential oils with wheatgerm oil, which is high in Vitamin E and just add it to their food. But always be mindful of the potency of Essential Oils.

Is it Safe?

They have to be used mainly in diluted form to prevent irritation and overdosing. Some of the oils are harmful. Learn about these and be extremely careful how you choose and use oils.

The fact that they are natural does not make them safe. You can overdose with Essential oils and the reactions can be very severe. If you use Rosemary on a dog that has suffered from epilepsy, it can provoke a seizure. Some of the more citrus oils used to keep bugs away and photo-sensitising for animals and can cause sunburn and irritation.

Always keep oils away from the animal’s eyes. If you have an allergic pet, first do a patch test on a healthy part of their body using a diluted oil and wait for at least

Half an hour to see if there is any adverse reaction.

Always follow the advice of a professional.

Aromatherapy medicine chest for dogs

Lavender, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Marjoram, Melissa, Peppermint, Tea Tree

Oils are not something to be used lightly. You really do need to consult a qualified aromatherapist who will explain what your animal needs and teach you the best way of using the oil for the particular problem you have with your animal.

FLOWER THERAPY FOR ANIMALS

FLOWER THERAPY FOR ANIMALS

by Dr. Jean C. Hofve

ABOUT THE BACH FLOWERS

Bach Flower Essences were discovered by Dr. Edward Bach, an English physician and homeopath, in the early 1900's. While originally developed for human use, we have found that the Bach Flower remedies work beautifully on animals, too. The remedies work on an energetic level, similar to homeopathy, acupuncture or Reiki. They affect the mental and emotional planes, and are useful for problems originating on these levels. Dr. Bach felt that even physical illness has its roots on the emotional plane, and by treating at this level, a general improvement in well-being could be achieved.

ADMINISTERING BACH FLOWERS

To make up a combination, use 2 drops of each desired flower essence to one ounce of water; for Rescue Remedy use 4 drops per ounce of water. You can add up to 20% alcohol (usually brandy or vodka) as a preservative as desired, but some animals dislike the taste. (You can use flower remedies straight from the stock bottle, but they taste terrible!) You may use up to 6 essences in combination, with Rescue Remedy counting as one essence. In general, use the fewest essences possible.

The remedy can be given by mouth, which is the most effective method. Only a few drops (4-8) are necessary, and need not be swallowed, but only must contact the mucous membranes (gums, tongue, lips). Be careful not to contaminate the dropper by touching it to the animal (if this occurs, rinse the dropper in very hot water before returning it to the bottle). You can also add a dropper-full to the water dish, or a few drops on wet food (there is no effect of dilution). You can add a dropper-full to a spray bottle filled with spring water, and use it to spray a room, carrier, car, around litter boxes or plants, or other problem areas. You can even put a few drops in your hand and pat the animal on the head and around the ears with it--the head is very sensitive to energy and will absorb the flower essences in this way. In the case of chewing or excessive licking or hot spots, you might want to try applying the remedy directly to the problem spot (IF it isn't too raw, otherwise the remedy will sting); the animal will then consume it when it next licks that area.

DOSAGE AND TIMING

Just a few drops (about 4-8) at a time are sufficient. For serious or acute conditions the remedy can be given as often as needed, even every few minutes. For most behavioral problems, we recommend 3-4 times a day for 2-4 weeks. If the response to the remedy is adequate by that time, you can begin to wean off by decreasing the frequency of administration. You may need to add a dropper-full to drinking water or give once a day long-term for some problems.

MULTIPLE ANIMALS

The Bach Flower remedies are nontoxic and will not adversely affect any other animals in the household. It is fine to put the remedy in a common water dish. In some cases we may even want to treat multiple animals in this way. The Bach Flowers work through a principle of resonance; if the animal needs the remedy, the remedy will act. If the particular remedy is not correct, there will simply be no effect.

SUGGESTED BACH FLOWERS FOR SPECIFIC CONDITIONS

DOG MASSAGE TECHNIQUES

DOG MASSAGE TECHNIQUES

Massaging your dog has many benefits:

Relaxes your dog.

Soothes tired or sore muscles.

Eases pain from surgery or other injuries.

Helps your dog suffering from ailments caused by old age to feel better.

Gains your dog's trust.

Noticeably increases the bond between you and your dog.

Many people hardly ever touch their dogs any more other than just petting or an occasional brushing. I believe dogs feel love and affection and need to be touched by their loved ones just like humans do. Take 5 minutes a day and massage your dog on almost every part of its body from his head to his toes and you will not only get to know your dog better, but your touch will also stimulate something in your dog that will make your dog respond to you in ways I cannot explain. I guarantee you will notice the change in your dog's attitude within as little as 2 - 3 days!!!! Instructions for dog massage: Use a very light oil. (I recommend Neutrogena Light Sesame Body Oil but baby oil is O.K.) Rub a very small amount (the size of a dime) into your hands and start at the top of the head and slowly stroke down the back to the base of the tail 3 - 4 times. Do an additional 2 - 3 times including the tail this time all the way to the tip. Use a very gentle but firm "squeeze-grip" on the tail as you slide your hand down to the tip, starting with a pause as you squeeze at the base of the tail, keeping your grip all the way to the tip of the tail. Next, gently rub the back of the neck behind the ears with your forefingers for a few seconds. Then, hold your dog's head in your hands by the cheeks and under the ears (with the dog facing you) and rock the head gently side-to-side 4 - 5 times. Massage the ears, taking care when you finish by inserting the tip of your thumb into the ear (about 1/8") and rub the ears between your thumb and forefinger. Massage your dog's eyes (they will close automatically) very lightly with your thumbs and stroke your forefinger down the nose, starting between the eyes. Gently pinch your dog's cheeks and lips several times and finally stroke the throat and chin. Add a drop more oil to your hands and massage the chest (while the dog is standing), moving your hands under the armpits and rubbing gently. Allow your hands to slide from the armpits to the forelegs Slide your hands down the forelegs (like you did for the tail) with a soft but firm grip all the way down to the paws. Gently hold the paws (one at a time) and squeeze gently for a few seconds. Repeat this procedure, starting with the chest, 2 - 3 times. *A note: It is best to straddle your dog standing over him like you would sit on a horse when you start with the chest massage (don't sit on him! !!). Then turn the opposite direction and massage the buttock, sliding your hands down the hind legs and massaging down to the paws. (Just as you did for the forelegs.) You can also massage the chest, armpits, legs and paws while your dog is laying down. Either on his side or on his back. And during the whole procedure, speak to your dog in a sweet, soft voice

I do work my dogs paws regularly but, as I said, I have not had to do it for anything major yet. However, for humans, reflexology is brilliant for balancing orders of the endocrine system so it wouldn't harm to try. I just massage all round and in-between the pads in little circular movements, on the base of the paw, and also massage over the
top of the paw and a little way up the lower limbs. Pressure is according to how you feel and what your dog will tolerate. Reflexologists use a wide variety of pressure - I'm usually told I have quite a light touch. You need only spend a couple of minutes a day doing this - and you can do it every day. Unlike the human body being mapped out on the feet, the dog body has not yet been worked out, and I haven't managed to sort anything out really. In a human the feet and the hands duplicate each other, so I don't know in a dog with front and back paws will do the same, or whether front paws will
represent the front half of the body, and the back paws the back end.

Anyway, as I said, simply massage all four paws and some way up the legs,
and see if it helps. At least it is something you can be working on.

written by Kimberley Scbreyer.

She has very generously allowed me to post it Permission to reprint for non-profit purposes such as club newsletters is granted provided the article is printed as written and full credit is given to the author. Needless to say these massage techniques are applicable to all breeds of dog.

HERBAL MEDICINE

HERBAL MEDICINE

Herbal medicines use plants to heal. It is an holistic treatment and takes account of the animal’s hole being and the many factors that unite to cause an illness, like an inadequate diet, stress and anxiety. Herbal medicine is slow acting but gentle.

It supports and stimulates the body to self heal, so the results are long lasting and potentially curative. I would always discuss the use of Herbs with a qualified professional or do some very serious research before handing out advice. Also, some animals can actually be allergic to certain Herbs, if not all.

Using Plants to heal

How often have you watched your dog eating grass and then being sick? If they are feeling ill they look for plants that will purge their system, at other times they may eat plants to get extra nutrients. Nature provides us with all we need, it is just a question of knowing what to take.

In the wild animals usually eat the stomach contents of their prey first, because this is where the partially digested and highly nutritious plant material is. It is therefore not unusual to see dogs eating horse droppings in the spring – full of protein amongst other things.

How does it work?

Herbs contain a range of active constituents which help the body fight unwanted ailments. For example, they can sedate overactive organs, relax tense muscles and nerves, stimulate circulation, strengthen tissues, revitalise the body, boost the immune system and reduce inflammation. Essentially, herbs support the body system in fighting disease rather than just relieving the symptoms.

Can Herbs be harmful?

Some herbs in large doses are toxic. Just because the side effects are minimal and instances of adverse reactions are rare, it does not mean that herbal medicines are safe to take. They are powerful medicines and need to be treated with respect. Anything taken in excess or inappropriately may be detrimental.

Something you have to be very careful of in herbal medicine is getting a diagnosis then treating your animal without veterinary supervision.

You must talk to your vet and explain you want to try other means of helping your animal, vets will usually be supportive as long as they can keep an eye on the situation.

The answer is not to give anything if you do not know what it is or what it is expected to do.

What can herbs help?

Long term problems like arthritis and rheumatism and some of the more acute problems like kennel cough and other bacterial infections. Herbs can also help with behavioural problems like anxiety and nerves. Here is a very brief guide to some of the problems that can be addressed using Herbs.

Rheumatism

Skin problems, such as exzema

Digestive disorders such as diarrhoea, constipation, colic, wind

Infections

Worms, parasites, fleas

Kidney conditions

Respiratory problems

Heart problems

Nervous conditions

Herbal medicines can also be used for a wide range of minor problems that can be treated at home including stomach upsets, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, sore muscles, skin rashes, burns and allergies.

Ways to use Herbs

Freshly picked Herbs

Dried Herbs

Infusions or tea

Decotion

Capsules

Tablets

Tinctures

External uses:

Ointment

Poultice

Compress

Soaking

Powders

It is vital to give the correct dosage. Using more than you should will not make the problem go away any quicker and could cause more problems. The action of Herbal treatment can be so gentle that you cannot see anything happening, but be patient and watch your pet carefully so that you notice any changes, as these will help to decide what effect treatment is having and whether to continue it, stop it or try something new.

Always discuss problems with your vet before embarking on any treatments. If you need to be referred to a qualified Herbalist, your vet should agree to this.

INTRODUCING HOMEOPATHY

INTRODUCING HOMEOPATHY

THE MIRACLE OF HEALING

1. What is homeopathy ?

Homeopathy is the system of medicine which works on the principle of 'like cures like' (Similia Similibus curanter). This system of holistic healing was founded by Dr.Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician. Hahnemann, who was translating the a book on the medicinal properties of drugs, was reading the properties of the medicine Cinchona, when he read that Cinchona cures malaria, because of its bitter taste. Hahnemann was surprised by this statement and when he read on, he found a footnote which said that cinchona poisoning leads to malaria-like symptoms. This set him thinking and he decided to test the medicine of himself. He experienced the symptoms of malaria, by repeatedly taking the Cinchona medicine and after continuing his experiments found that those medicines which cause disease-like symptoms in healthy individuals are capable of curing the diseased individuals. So, homeopathy relies on the Materia Medica - a book containing the properties of medicines, properties which have been proved on healthy individuals. Homeopathic doctors rely on the materia medica as the authority for it contains not empty theories, but details of symptoms which were experienced by hundreds of provers. It is thus a system based on sound principles and as a result of solid experiments

 2.  How does homeopathy work ?

The theory behind the working of homeopathy is that the body of every human being contains a vital force within the body which regulates the functioning of the body. Due to reasons such as heredity, environmental conditions, stress etc, this vital force weaken causing disease. So, disease is nothing but a complex of certain symptoms observed in the human body. The homeopathic physician make a study of not only the symptoms the patient is complaining of, but of the entire patient himself. This leads to a picture of the patient. The physician then prescribes homeopathic medicine, which matches this picture. Now, the medicine so prescribed would have caused the same symptoms in healthy person during 'drug provings'. This medicine is given in a highly diluted dose, so as to prevent side effects. This minute dose, creates a similar disorder in the vital force and provokes the vital force to react to the symptoms and overcome. (The same system is used in vaccines, where vaccination against small-pox is done by injecting the small-pox disease-causing organism, so that the body can build up its natural immunity

 3. Does homeopathy rely on placebo treatment ?

Now, all homeopathy medicines are given in a very low dosage. This is called as 'potentisation'. Hahnemann discovered that the more the medicine was diluted (with alcohol or lactose), the more potent it became. So, homeopathy makes use of medicines in a very low form. For eg: a doctor may prescribe a medicine with potency C. What it means is that the medicine has been diluted to C (100 times), i.e: for every ninty-nine parts of the diluent, there is one part of the medicine. The question is how does such a small dose work ? The medicines contain an internal energy which is transferred to the vital force leading to cure. Generally, there is a canard against homeopathy, that it relies on placebo treatment, which is totally false. While the medicines may contain so less of the substance that it cannot be detected in a lab, it has been proved that these medicines are highly effective. While, it is easy to say that men who take the medicine may feel that they are getting better due to auto-suggestion, homeopathy has just as effective in curing animals. Can anyone say that animals can be cured by placebo treatment

 4. Is homeopathy of use in treatment of all types of diseases ?

Homeopathy is the best way to cure both acute and chronic diseases. Right from fever, cough, cold to asthma, skin diseases, cancer and diabetes. All these are not only just curable but the cure is mild(without side effects) and permanent. While allopathy makes use of strong medicines to cure, which cause severe side effects, homeopathic medicines are not only sweet and east to take, they work highly effectively without any side effect. The danger of allopathic medicines is that they do not cure but suppress. For eg : a cough and throat infection is not cured by allopathic drugs, but is suppressed and the disorder may move to the lungs causing asthma and other severe problem. Homeopathy works on the principle of 'Cure the person, not the disease'. It takes into account the totality of symptoms of the individual and treats each individual separately. For eg: there may be two patients suffering from fever. While an allopath would prescribe the same medicine for both, the homeopath observes the overall symptoms. The first patient may be suffering from fever caused due to exposure to cold wind, also the patient is full of anxiety and fearful of death. This corresponds to a homeopathic medicine Aconite, which when given results in immediate cure. The other patient suffering from fever, has his conditions worse after midnight. Despite the high fever and thirst, he wants to drink just little quantities of water. This corresponds to a homeopathic medicine Arsenic. So, the same medicine may not cure two cases of the same disease. Homeopathy thus, treats the individual and not the disease. The name of the disease is not important to the homeopathic physician

 5. Isn't homeopathy too slow as a system of treatment ?

Cases of acute diseases/disorders like headache, fever, cold, cough, etc can be cured within minutes through the proper selection of the homeopathic remedy. However chronic diseases like asthma, heart problems, cancer etc need time to cure. There is a belief that allopathic medicines give immediate relief, but at what cost ? The use of strong medicines and steriods weaken the body's natural immune system. Homeopathy restores the body to it's original state of health. If a disease is chronic in nature it means that it would have been in the human body for a long time, so it requires some time to be cured. This can vary depending on the problem and the patient. Generally, a strict diet is required while taking homeopathic medicines. Homeopathic medicines must always be taken on an empty stomach and stimulants like coffee, strong tea, nicotine, alcohol, etc must be avoided as they interfere with the working of the medicine. If the patient does not follow the diet prescribed, the healing process is slowed down. There are numerous cases of diseases of long-standing and of serious nature like kidney failure, heart failure, severe asthma which has been cured within a few days

6. If homeopathy is so effective, why has it not overtaken allopathy ?

Whatever criteria you may use, there is no doubt that homeopathy is much more effective than allopathy, but the sad fact is that homeopathy has lagged behind in popularity. The failure is not of the system, but of the physician. Homeopathy is a science and has its principles which have to properly applied to find the right remedy (the similimum). Homeopathy has more than 2000 remedies to choose from. Even if you filter out the not-so-used ones, you get more than 200 remedies. Choosing one among them is not so easy and requires the application of great skills on the part of the physician. Also, the homeopathic colleges have totally failed in teaching homeopathy as per the principles laid down by Hahnemann. This has resulted in doctors prescribing compound drugs (which is prohibited by Hahnemann, who calls for only one remedy to be prescribed at a time). Thus, their treatment is a hit and run affair. A number of homeopaths who neither understand nor are able to apply this treatment, prescribe allopathic medicines and thus discredit homeopathy. In fact the number of doctors who properly apply the scientific principles of homeopathy are but a few. This is the only reason why homeopathy has not overtaken allopathy. To quote Mahatma Gandhi - "Just like my principle of ahimsa(non violence) homeopathy can never failure. Failure if any is of the person who practices it

7. Can homeopathy be practiced by anyone ?

The answer to this is YES !! Anyone who has truly understood the principle of Simplex, Similimum,Minimum and anyone who is committed to the system of holistic healing, can practice homeopathy, even if they are not certified doctors. What is required is a knowledge of biology, knowledge of the human anatomy and physiology and most importantly the knowledge of symptomatology,i.e : diseases and their symptoms. This knowledge coupled with the mastery over the principles and a thorough understanding of the materia medica, will help in the practice of homeopathy. However, the fallacy that homeopathy can be practiced by reading books is totally FALSE. It is not reading books, but by understanding and applying principles that homeopathy can be practiced

8. What are the different types of medicines used in homeopathy ?

Homeopathy uses an array of medicines whose source ranges from animals to plants and chemicals. Plants like Onion (Allium),Capsicum,Belladonna, Cactus, etc are used for preparation of homeopathic medicines. A large number of chemicals like Nitric acid, Arsenious acid, Iron, Phosphorous are popular homeopathic remedies. There are also a large number of animal sourced medicines like Naja & Lachesis which are snake poisons. Medicines are also prepared from substance like milk (Lac def) and sand (Silica). The products of diseases are used to prepare homeopathic medicines called as nosodes. These nosodes include Carcinosin (prepared from the cancer cells), Tuberculinum (prepared from the cells of the lungs of cow infected by tuberculosis), etc. While there may be a few people who are apprehensive of taking such medicines, they need not fear, because the process of preparing homeopathic medicines ensures that they are diluted such that they lose their original form and are rendered harmless

McTIMONEY CHIROPRACTIC

McTIMONEY CHIROPRACTIC

This is a hands on treatment which aligns and balances and animal’s musculo-skeletal system. Much of the treatment concentrates on the spine and it’s effect on the animal’s central nervous system. Just like us, dogs can get back, eck, pelvic and other skeletal disorders and so they too can be helped by chiropractic.

It works to align and balance the animal’s musculo-skeletal system using light and gentle manipulation techniques. The Musculo-skeletal system refers to the whole of the body structure, the bone, joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons.

The chiropractor uses gentle manipulations which cause the animal;s own muscles and ligaments to bring the bones back into place. By adjusting any misalignments using swift but gentle thrusts, the animal’s muscles respond and pulll the vertebrae back into the correct position naturally.

The animals’ nerve supply goes right the way down the spine, and if a nerve gets pinched or trapped, the electrical impulse cannot be carried down the nerve pathways properly. Therefore a major organ, like the heart or the liver can be adversely affected. Treatment can remove tension and relieve pain. Chiropractic treats the deeper cause of symptoms and is therefore a whole body treatment.

Treatment

Once the source of the problem has been discovered the area is treated to correct any misalignment and reduce muscle spasm. The practitioner will use only his hands in a gentle and non-intrusive way. McTimoney chiropractic is famed for its light touch that almost teases the joints and muscles to respond, rather than forcing them to do so. This ensures that the animals do not suffer any discomfort during treatment.

Many breeds of dogs are worked hard, especially greyhounds and this high performance and high expectation can take its toll. Animals like these may often need regular treatment as competitive racing places enormous strain on bones, joints and muscles etc.

Other breeds, like dachshunds and basset hounds and those with long backs can be prone to spinal problems. Simply going up and down an awkward staircase or being overweight can put too much extra pressure on a potentially weak area.

It is hard to be precise as to how many treatments an animal will need. So many factors need to be considered. Age of the animal, nature of the problem, how long they’ve had it and so on. An acute problem may take one or two treatments and chronic problem may take several treatments. Nature needs time to heal, and as long as treatment is having a positive effect, be patient and let it take its natural course.

ACUPRESSURE FOR PROBLEMS

ACUPRESSURE FOR PROBLEMS

Improving control with acupressure

There are a number of acupressure points that can help direct healing energy to certain parts of the body that play a role in house soiling.

For example:

Pressing the points L14, L111 and ST25 can help stop diarrhea and other bowel control problems

The acupressure points BL67, BL1, SP6 and SP10 can be stimulated to stop soiling in the house

To stop diarrhea, you need to stimulate 3 acupressure points. L14 located between the dewclaw and first long toe of the paw in the front leg. L11, located on the outside of the front legs at the elbow creases, and ST25 located on the abdomen

There are 4 points for stopping inappropriate urination. BL67 located on the outside edge of the outside toe on the rear foot. BL1, located on the inside corner of each eye. SP6 located on the inside of the rear legs, just above the hocks, and SP10 located above the knee on the inside of the rear leg.

Using your index finger to apply even pressure to each of the points. Press each point for about 30 seconds twice a day until your pet has gained more control.

BIOCHEMIC REMEDIES

BIOCHEMIC REMEDIES

Also known as the Tissue remedies or Schussler's tissue salt remedies.

This is a system of medicine evolved by Dr.Schussler in 1873. Schussler was a homeopath who propounded the theory that disease is caused by the insufficiency of organic salts in the tissues/cells of the body and that the supply of these deficient salt(s) cures diseases.

Schussler identified 12 homeopathic medicines as the biochemic remedies. These twelve basic salts are :

1) Calcarea fluor (Calcium fluoride)

2) Calcium phosphorica (Calcium phosphate)

3) Calcium sulphate

4) Ferrum phosphorica (Iron phosphate)

5) Kali muriaticum (Potassium chloride)

6) Kali phosphorica (Potassium phosphate)

7) Kali sulphurica (Potassium sulphate)

8) Magnesia Phosphorica (Magnesium phosphate)

9) Natrum muriaticum (Sodium chloride)

10) Natrum sulphuricum(Glauber's salt - Sodium sulphate)

11) Natrum phosphoricum (Sodium phosphate)

12) Silicea.
These medicines given in a low potency 1x,2x,6x,12,x,30x could serve as a healing agent.

Using Tissue Salts With Animals

Animals often respond very quickly to the use of Tissue Salts and there is no danger of overdosing or side effect. Tissue salts are made only from mineral sources, whereas homeopathic remedies are made from animal, mineral and vegetable sources.

Animals have always been intuitive about their health and will naturally try to restore any imbalance in their systems, eating grass, licking dirt, drinking dirty water etc. It is shown by research that many ailments in animals are directly linked to mineral and trace-element deficiencies.

Treating Your Pet Yourself

The key to good treatment is to match the symptoms to the remedy. Tissue salts are easy to use and there are only 12 remedies to choose from. There are also combination Tissue Salts which you can buy which will cover for example ‘nerves and anxiety’ and these are easily bought at a good Health Food store or Pharmacy.

Giving Tissue Salts to your Pet

Remedies should be given away from meal times. They can be put directly into your pet’s mouth. Because they are soft, then tend to dissolve easily so there is little chance of your pet spitting them out, but be watchful, just in case.

They can also be used externally for cuts and wounds. For example, Iron phosphate tablets can be crushed and rubbed into the affected part, after it has been well cleaned. Alternatively, you can dissolve the tablets in sterilised water and make a paste which can be rubbed straight onto the skin.

Dosage

Like homeopathic remedies, the tissue salts are tiny sugar milk tablets which contain the potentised mineral salt. The dosage is the same for dogs and cats, there is no danger of overdosing. Any excess will be eliminated by the body. Even if you pick the wrong remedy in error, it will not have any adverse effects. However, like all natural remedies, it is always best to use them in the recommended dose:

Acute:

Short term problems – two to four tablets given three times a day. In severe cases, two to four tablets can be given every half hour until the symptoms lessen.

Chronic:

Long term conditions may need to be treated for a number of weeks. Give two tablets twice a day.

Always consult your vet if your pet’s condition is serious or you are in any doubt.

How Quickly will they work

With acute conditions your pet may improve within a matter of hours, especially if the tablets are being given every half an hour or so. It can take much longer to notice improvements in long term conditions, and it can be as long as six months in some cases. A lot depends on the animal’s age and breed, but in general the longer a condition has been around, the longer it can take to heal. Do not expect an instant cure; mineral salts, like other natural forms of treatments, work gradually and gently restoring the body to health and harmony.

The tablets will keep for about three years if stored in a cool, dry place, away from strong light. The Biochemical tissue salts can complement other treatments and therapies as well.

ARE ESSENTIAL OILS SAFE

ARE ESSENTIAL OILS SAFE

BY KRISTEN LEIGH BELL

All substances should be used in moderation, even those that are all natural. Many consumers are mislead into thinking that natural remedies are 100% safe, and this is simply untrue. While necessary precautions are taken by us to ensure your safety in using our essential oil products, care must still be taken- directions followed, and products used in moderation. Products containing essential oils are not intended to be a replacement for regular trips to the doctor or veterinarian, nor should they be used in place of allopathic medicines if they are needed. Instead, Aromatherapy should be seen as a complementary therapy to use in tandem with regular medical care and preventative measures.

Aromaleigh, Inc. focuses on using therapeutic grade essential oils and natural ingredients in all of our products. Canine products take into account the dog's keen sense of smell and these products are appropriately diluted. Since cat's systems cannot tolerate essential oils, our feline products do not use essential oils at all- but rather use "hydrosols". Hydrosols are the waters left after the steam distillation of essential oils, and they contain only minute percentages of essential oils, but are rich in water soluble substances which are extremely gentle, and have anti-inflammatory and gentle antiseptic effects. Hydrosols are also safe to use on human babies, puppies, and other small animals such as ferrets or rabbits.

We believe that the safest essential oils should be used, thus we do not use potentially dangerous essential oils such as Pennyroyal, Rue, Clove,Wormwood and others, in our animal or human products. We strive to use the gentlest yet most effective oils, as we believe that one should never use the most potent oils unless absolutely necessary- as they carry the risk of irritation and sensitization. Animals should be treated with the extreme care and sensitivity one would use in treating a human baby with essential oils. They are far more sensitive than we are, and should be treated as such.

We strive for safety in our products in several ways. The most important is the use of high-quality, therapeutic-grade essential oils. We also use only premium, natural botanical ingredients in our products. Our body and skin-care products do not contain any of the synthetic chemical ingredients which mass-manufactured products commonly contain- ingredients which are known carcinogens and irritants.

Aromaleigh products contain essential oils in safely diluted percentages. We do not sell our oils or blends undiluted. We also take great care in offering blends which contain the safest, gentlest oils. If we do offer a product with stronger oils, it is always in very small amounts, in accordance with known safety data for the various essential oils. If you have any known medical problems, such as high blood pressure, severe allergies, seizures or epilepsy, asthma/troubled breathing or are pregnant, please call us to discuss which products are the safest for you (or your pet) to use. All products come with safety sheets, directions for use, and complete list of ingredients. In addition, some safety indications are given throughout this catalog and our website next to certain products.

HOW DO ESSENTIAL OILS WORK

HOW DO ESSENTIAL OILS WORK

By Kristen Leigh Bell

Typically, Essential oils act most quickly and effectively when they are inhaled. They impact us emotionally and psychologically as the oils are inhaled, and the aromatic molecules attach to the olfactory receptors, and are routed to the brain, where a reaction to the aromas is seen almost immediately. Oils which are inhaled are also absorbed into the body through the mucous membranes of the nose, throat and lungs, where they quickly enter the bloodstream. In other applications, oils applied to the body are absorbed through the skin, or applied locally to an area of the body where they are needed- such as a burn or rash- working to heal the area and relieve itching or inflammation. Still others use essential oils internally- with small amounts taken in gelatin capsules or diluted in base oils. It is crucial with internal consumption that the oils be of therapeutic quality, that they be "prescribed" by an aromatherapist whom you trust, and taken exactly as directed.

It is not just the scent of essential oils that makes them work. Certainly, the aroma has a lot to do with the psychological and spiritual effects which the oils have for humans, but what about animals? For practical purposes, we must assume that animals are reacting to the chemical constituents of the oils- as they cannot verbally communicate their feelings to us. Humans form distinct emotional responses to certain smells, and we are unsure if animals are capable of this. A simple example of how an animal has a physiological reaction to an essential oil is Lavender. This essential oil is well known for its calming and sedating properties. It is reputed to be good for stress, relaxing and aiding one in falling asleep easily. Why? Lavender, and all essential oils contain a plethora of chemical compounds. It is these compounds which determine the effect the oil will have on the physiology. In the case of lavender, a dominant chemical constituent is Esters, such as linalyl acetate, bornyl acetate and others. Essential oils such as lavender, which contain Esters. have relaxing, calming, sedative effects on the central nervous system. So, you see- there is much more at work here than simply the smell of the oils- which is the major reason why synthetic aromas are not therapeutic. They merely try to mimic the scent in the laboratory- not the chemical constituents. Many people also believe that the oils embody the life force and vibrational energy of the plant- something which certainly cannot be reproduced in a laboratory!

In short, essential oils have balancing and strengthening effects on our bodies. They pass into and pass through the body with great ease. They are non-invasive, cause few, if any, side effects, and microorganisms are quite unsuccessful in forming resistance to them (unlike modern antibiotics). Essential oils have allopathic effects on the body, meaning they act as regular medicines do, but they also work on other levels. They work in subtle, vibrational ways, as does homeopathy and flower essences, and they also work in psychological and spiritual ways. It is believed that regular use of essential oils and products containing essential oils is highly beneficial to our health- on the many levels that essential oils work

T.TOUCH FOR PETS-SOLVING PROBLEMS

T.TOUCH FOR PETS-SOLVING PROBLEMS
by Kathleen Moser

A Rodale Press contribution

"Actually, the touch itself I was given as a sort of gift from the animal angels," Linda Tellington-Jones told me. She had been using Feldenkrais bodywork methods since around 1975, but the TTouch actually began in 1983, when she was working with a very difficult horse. As Linda began to work on the mare's body, she became very quiet, and her owner asked Linda what her secret was.

"I told the owner to just put her hands on her horse and push the skin in little circles. I wasn't even sure why I said that, and I think it was the horse angel that told me to do it. That's how the work developed, and I just started experimenting with these little circles and other different circles-and it's just amazing how it works."

Today, her TTouch is used by people around the world to soothe their animals, ease pain, speed healing, and even change behavior.

Linda said she recently received an e-mail from a woman who, after reading about the technique, tried the circular touches on her 5-year-old dog who had always been a terrible puller on her leash. It didn't occur to the woman that this would affect her dog's pulling, since she had already tried training and obedience sessions to no avail. But the next time she was walking her dog, she gave the leash a little tug, and her dog heeled perfectly!

"That's what the touch is," Linda explained. "It's a new language that happens between the person and the animal, and they get smarter. It's been called the 'touch that teaches,' and I think it's about educating animals, taking them beyond instinct, so they learn how to think in a new way."

Calming a Fear Biter
She recalled giving a presentation at a humane society in
California , where there was a woman with a dog who was a fear biter. The dog was so aggressive that the woman was afraid to ever let her dog near another animal. She tried lots of different trainers, but nothing helped.

Linda used the TTouch (combined with her method of double leash-dog halter and flat collar) on the dog and also the body wrap. After about 10 minutes, the woman could walk her dog past another dog with no problem at all.

Linda told me about a woman whose little dog had a really bad cough. After all kinds of veterinary care, the medicines seemed only to be making the dog sick and not helping the cough. Then the woman got the TTouch videotape and started doing the touches on her dog. Within a couple of days, the coughing stopped, and the dog lived for another year and a half with a quality of life that the owner never thought she was going to have.

I wondered if there were times when the TTouch just didn't work. "One situation where it usually won't work," Linda explained, "is when the person can't change his attitude toward the animal. When you have the attitude that this dog won't change or that it's a 'bad' dog, it probably won't work."

Ears for Fears
When I was at a TTouch workshop, the instructor, Edie Jane Eaton, was working with a stray kitty found on the campus of the Omega Institute in
New York . The cat was very nervous and unwilling to go into a carrier. Holding him on her lap, she began with fast, light touches all around his body.

Then, gradually, she worked toward his ears, explaining to me how ear work with the touch is not only helpful for calming a nervous pet but also for respiratory, digestive, and reproductive problems. "There are many acupuncture points along the ears," she said. "It's kind of a microcosm of the entire body."

As Edie continued to work on the kitty (who was becoming quite mellow), he allowed her to do little circles on his mouth and the front of his gums. Edie explained how the mouth and the gums have a connection to the limbic system (the part of the brain that is associated with the emotions and with learning). Kitty went into the carrier without a fuss.

Erasing Alienation
For a very hyper or agitated pet, "Do the ear strokes," Linda advises. "Slow ear strokes and maybe some slow little circles with a little lift all over the body. It really works!"

She remembered an African Grey parrot that her friend in Israel had raised from a hatchling, and the two of them were best buddies. After being away at a conference for a month, he came back to a very angry bird who kept trying to bite him. They weren't buddies anymore. Her friend asked for Linda's help.

Linda wrapped the bird in a towel to contain him and began to do the circles with the eraser of a pencil so he couldn't reach around and nip her. After a few minutes, she said, his eyes started to change and he started to relax. She took him out of his wrap and handed him to his owner, and the next day they were buddies again. "We have several bird stories like that. Birds are very smart," Linda said.

"Stroking the ears is good for car sickness too, in people and pets. Stroke your pet's ears, and she won't drool or throw up on the way to the vet."

Teaching the Touch that Teaches
"We have many veterinarians who use TTouch, and quite a number who are TTouch practitioners," Linda told us. Some do a few touches before they even begin to examine a dog or cat because they find it not only relaxes the pet but also makes the exam much easier. Stroking the ears also helps an animal to come out of anesthesia after surgery without the usual thrashing around and discomfort.

The touch is also taught as a course in the University of Vienna School of Veterinary Medicine in Austria and at the University of Hanover in Germany .

If you would like to get training in the Tellington TTouch or to become a certified practitioner of the touch, there are many training programs available nationwide and in Canada . And it's easy to find that information on the Tellington-Jones Web site or by e-mail.
